What about legislation against some dog breeds
More than one government in Scandinavia have suggested restrictions against some dog breeds. That includes American Staffordshire Terrier. I have a Staffordshire bullterrier (british) myself which is quite far from an AmStaff. But I think forbidding certain breeds is a bit drastic.

I totally agree with what you're saying. First of all as you say, it's up to the owner no regard of what kind of dog it is. Then many of the incidents that have occured are related to cross-breeds. Like mixing a Rotweiler with an AmStaff or Pitbull (with different characteristic), will put even higher demands on the owner. I think an incident with a pure-bred Pitbull never has accured.
The thing is the government just strive for some political goodwil,, since some people and media are whining. But the opponents are completely unaware of the reality and how to take care of a dog. And they mix up facts all the time.

In 2008, cities in over half of the states considered some form of breed-specific legislation. In Omaha, NE pit bulls are required to have a $100,000 liability insurance policy. And some cities like Denver and Sioux City have banned pit bulls altogether.
There is little to no evidence that breed-specific legislation reduces dog bites and dog attacks!

I agree Samantha, I couldn't find any facts proving legislation changes anything. Not surprising, since I agree with Andy that the problems are connected to the owner, not the breed, although differents breeds have different characteristics. However, it's extremly rare that the classical dog fight breeds attack humans if they are pure-bred and raised by serious breeders and owners.
