Last night Aug 18, 2010 my long time dream to see David perform in person came true. I didn't think this would ever happen since I live in La, and don't have the means of traveling to Europe or even Las Vegas to see him perform.
When I heard that David would be at the filming of the Gulf is Back Special my heart soared. I left my house early on the morning of Aug 17, to get in line to get tickets for the special. The tickets could not be gotten online, you could only get them at the Gulf Coast Coliseum. So I left my house at 6 A.M. for the hour drive to get tickets. I was very lucky and got tickets for my husband and I to attend.
I was very excited the night of the concert. We arrived early to get good seats. It was general admission and we were in row 10 on the floor in the center. We could see perfectly. As this was a tapping for a t.v. show and not a concert, we got to see them touching up the make up of the stars and David and many others talked and joked with us between sets. David opened the show with "Feeling Good". He was incredible he sang with such energy. David served as host for the whole show and was wonderful, very personable and charming. When not on set he talked to fans on the side as much as security would allow. I kept waiting for a chance to get over to him to ask him to sign my book and take a picture with me, but the security kept blocking me. Finally when David introduced the last act of the night his personal favorite Lone Star, I got out of my seat and went over to the left side where David was standing. After being told by two security guards to go back to my seat, I got within 5 steps of David when a security guard put his hand on my shoulder and pulled me back. I had David's book in my hand and said loudly "David". To my surprise he heard me and told the officer to let me go. I asked him to sign my book and he said of course. I wanted to take a picture with him but this wasn't possible as the security guard said we were distracting the group on stage. A whole group of people had now come up to David. He signed my book and handed it back to me shaking my hand, with his firm but gentle handshake. He was very sweet. I didn't get to take my picture with him, but I took tons of pictures of him. That I will post later today. I even have one of him signing my book. He returned to the stage to do the closing song of the night, "This Time Around" and he was incredible. He blew kisses to us and wished up a good night. I was wishing he would come back out but that wasn't possible. But that's o.k. because it was an incredible night that I will always remember. Thank you to my husband Lyle for going with me and thank you David for taking the time to sign my book and see me. Dreams do come true.
