Just in time for summer, ABC Family introduces "Huge," a new dramedy focusing on seven teens that get shipped off to weight-loss camp for the summer, starring 'Hairspray''s Nikki Blonsky and David Hasselhoff's daughter Hayley Hasselhoff.
"This was a role I couldn't turn down because, first of all, it was a role that I was dying to play," Nikki tells ET. "I wanted it more then anything. I was begging for it. … Similar to Tracy [in 'Hairspray'], it was a role that I knew that I had to play because she was just somebody that had so many levels of emotions, and was so interesting to me that I couldn't let anybody else play her."
"Huge," based on the eponymous book by Sasha Paley, will follow the emotional journey of the campers as they deal with issues including self-esteem, friendship, rivalry, romance and body image.
"I hope audiences just become more comfortable with themselves after viewing this show, realizing that somebody had the guts in Hollywood to cast a full cast of plus-size actors," Nikki says. "I think it's a beautiful thing. I'm really proud to be a part of such a show with such guts."
Nikki star as Willamina, aka Will, an opinionated, sardonic non-conformist who is not happy that her parents sent her to Camp Victory, so she schemes to gain weight during her stay. Hayley stars as Amber, the thinnest girl at camp, who wants to be there so much, she saved her own money for the tuition, and who believes if she reaches her goal weight, she will be happy.
"We do not get along at all, and, unfortunately, the counselors paired us together," Hayley says of Will and Amber. "So we're doing activities where we are supposed to trust each other and she's leading the way, and I'm supposed to trust her. But it came to the point where I was getting so frustrated, that I just needed to get out of there."

Truth be told, Amber is slightly in awe of Will, who does a striptease the first day at camp, which impresses Amber, who wishes she had that confidence. But when Amber gets involved with the popular kids in camp, she gets distracted and doesn't develop a relationship, which could actually help her become the person she wants to be.
"We don't end up being friends but we end up talking to each other in a different light because we get stuck in a cabin, stuck in a tent together," says Hayley, who will also be featured on her father's as-yet-untitled reality show for A&E.
"My family's new reality show, it's one to prove the tabloids wrong, to show how loving of a family we are and how great we are, and how all the "shiznaz" that comes out about our family is just false and that the biggest misconception is our parents aren't there for us because our mom and our dad are just our best friends," Hayley tells ET. "But it's also about our careers. It's about me doing 'Huge.' They come on the set here and they film me being in my trailer and that kind of stuff. It's also about me and my sister's singing career. We have a band called Bella Vida, so it's our process in our album."
"Huge" premieres Monday, June 28 at 9 p.m. on ABC Family.
