Hoff's Heroes

I think giving back to your community is one of the most important things a person can do. I try to promote good causes in my own city and I've taught my daughters how important it it.

I want to see what you guys give back to your communities, so the team and I thought up a great way to find out what people are doing and to acknowledge people that give time to a good cause.

So, submit your friends or your family members (whether they're a member of Hoffspace or not) and tell us why you think they should be one of Hoff's Heroes; people who do amazing work in their community, who have overcome incredible adversity, or anyone you think deserves to be recognized for outstanding work. We'll choose one a month to feature. They might also get a little something special.

Send their stories to Team Hoff user name on Hoffspace: Hasselhoff.com and let's get these people the recognition they deserve.

Comment by Dana on May 27, 2009 at 8:31pm: I used to teach at an inner city school. The community is one of the poorest in the city I live in. We were approached by a local Kawanis chapter to start a K-kids chapter of their service organization. We took them up on it and it has been running strong for the past 4 years. It has given the students an opportunity to see that no matter how little you have you can always help someone less fortunate. They help the local Ronald McDonald House, SPCA, veterans, and last year they went global. They adopted a sister school in Rwanda and send school supplies to them regularly.
Those kids inspire me everyday. They have also inspired my mom. In 2007 we lost my dad (her husband of 55 years) and my brother. She went with the K-kids on a field trip to the Ronald Mc Donald House and realized that she had a choice. She could sit home and wallow in grief or she could do as these kids do and help. She has been volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House for two years now and has added an additional volunteer job at a local hospital. My mom is the best and she, along with my students are my heros.

I think it is great that you help.
One day I found an injured cat on the street attacked by a dog. I called the ambulance for animals and they picked the cat up, arranged for a vet and then brought her to the Cat-shelter where she was lovelingly cared for by sweet people like you. So you make surely a difference through your love for animals.

Comment by Victoria James on May 15, 2009 at 4:29am: I know it isn't much, but I volunteer one day a week to help the Cats Protection League - a charity to stop abuse to cats, prevent cats in the wild dying, cat neutering and a rehoming service which is nationwide. They are so in need of recognition - not me! I also do free DIY for people of a low income - its easy peasy.

My son Ronny Schouten and my daughter Belinda Schouten are my true heroes.
When I lost my job, home and everything in it and had to move to one little room, they still loved me.
My son did sell his piano so he could buy us food. My daughter and her friend invited me often.
At the moment I finally have a "real home"again so that my son can live with me and my daughter visit me.
