Sign The Petition To Stop Tearing Down The Berlin Wall

In 1989 on New Year's Eve I sang on the top of Berlin Wall, you all know that, it's no secret. I sang for freedom and for all people who were going through a terrible things living "behind the curtain" or behind the Wall if you prefer. Now they are trying to tear down the wall to put up an apartment complex.

The Berlin Wall is not just a symbol and part of German history, it's a symbol for every single person who lived in fear for their lives and in horrible conditions that we, who were lucky to live in countries that represent democracy in its full meaning, couldn't even imagine and the fall of the Wall represents a new beginning and a hope for all of them.

I urge you all to sign the petition to stop this from happening. You can sign it at this link http://www.change.org/petitions/herr-wowereit-east-side-gallery-ret....

Thank You David for supporting this cause.  I had already signed the petition before I saw your blog. The Wall is a very important part of German history and must not be removed - or even just moved over like a chair that gets in the way. I grew up in Cold War Germany and my family was one of many divided into West and East byM that Wall and fence. On my senior trip we went to Berlin and I remember East German Police coming aboard the train at the border and locking us in our cars while we crossed East Germany. There were several stops along the way, but our doors did not open again until we reached Berlin. This left a big impression on me at the time.  Years later, we celebrated with tears of joy in our eyes when the border opened, and again when you sang at the Wall on New Years Eve 1989

I appreciate you adding your voice to this petition. The East Side Gallery must remain standing as a reminder of our horrific past.As the saying goes, those who forget history are condemned to repeat it.
