My eldest son had a role as an extra in the recently released Hollywood film
The Young Victoria.
Scenes for the royal coronation of Queen Victoria were filmed at
Lincoln Cathedral, and my son had a part as a Page Boy.
Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to take photos of him in this role, nor did any of the scenes with extras in actually shown in the film, including scenes shot with Princess Beatrice, daughter of the Duchess of York, who co-produced the film with Martin Scorsese.
The Young Victoria was directed by Jean Marc Vallee, who according to my son "spoke funny" (he has a French accent!) He also met Jim Broadbent, a popular English actor who starred in the film.
The scenes were filmed in October 2007, I too could've had a role, but unfortunately I was due to complete the final year of my degree, and I'm not really an actress!
The Young Victoria went on general release 6th March 2009, and I took the boys for a weekend in London to see the premiere in Leicester Square.
Unfortunately we missed the Hollywood preview with red carpet celebrities, but we enjoyed the film, and a lovely weekend sightseeing.
My son's teachers have commented that he has a talent for drama, although he is also a gifted young scientist, and also took part in the
Dalek World Record Attempt with fellow Doctor Who fans in 2007, winning a Blue Peter badge for this achievement.
There is currently an exhibition in
Lincoln Cathedral relating to the filming of The Young Victoria, which substituted Westminster Cathedral in this and
The Da Vinci Code in 2005.
